BA Flintkote PF-4 Bitumen Paint
BA Flintkote PF-4 Bitumen Paint is low viscosity blend of selected hard grade bitumen in solvent which dries to form a high quality tough bitumen film.
USAGE
As vapour barriers, damp proof courses, linings to potable water tanks and pipes to provide a continuous barrier to the passage of water and water vapour. Corrosion protection to metal surfaces such as “I” beam for piling, steel piles and drinking water tanks etc.
Concrete protection:
As a primer to concrete roofs, cement screeds/renders, bitumen felt, mastic asphalt prior to application of other bituminous coatings. To rejuvenate bituminous felts or asphalt surfaces which have been oxidised.
TECHNICAL ADVANTAGES
Easy and inexpensive to apply
Does not taint water
Quick drying
Excellent adhesion to common building substrates
High coverage rates
Tough bitumen film formed
STANDARD COMPLIANCE
BS3416 Type I Class C: British Standard For Bitumen-Based Coating.
For Cold Application, suitable for use in contact with potable water.
BS6949 Type I Class C: British Standard For Bitumen-Based Coating.
For Cold Application, excluding use in contact with potable water.
SPECIFICATION CLAUSE
Bituminous or concrete surfaces areas so designated
shall be coated with BA Flintkote PF-4 bitumen paint
as supplied by BA. The coating should be applied in a
minimum of 2 coats at a coverage rate not less than 10 m2/litre per
coat in accordance with the BA’s current product data sheet.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTION
Surface Preparation
All surfaces shall be clean and free from dust, dirt, oil,
grease, moss and loose material.
Coating Application
Apply a minimum of two thin coats by brush, roller or
conventional spray equipment. Allow first coat to dry before
applying second coat at right angles to the first coat. When
used as the primer, apply only one coat and allow to dry.
COVERAGE
Coverage rates will vary depending on the actual surface
environment and application. The typical coverage is about
1.5 litres/m2 for a 2 coats application.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
Flammability: Flammable. Keep away from sources of ignition
including pilot lights and sparks. Take precautionary measures
against static discharge. Do not smoke. Keep containers tightly
closed when not in use. If used in an enclosed space, ensure
thorough ventilation of the area (using flame proof mechanical
blowers) to avoid any accumulation of vapour until the product
has dried. In case of fire use dry powder, carbon dioxide, foam,
sand or earth. Never use water as this may spread the fire.
(Note: Electric motors, light/power switches and steel tools may
generate sparks sufficient to ignite such a material or the vapours
given off, resulting in an explosion and/or fire.)
Skin Contact: Contains solvents which cause defatting of the
skin and, in extreme circumstances, dermatitis. Avoid contact by
careful working and use of barrier cream or gloves. Remove skin
contamination with a proprietary hand cleaner following by washing
with soap and water.
Eye Contact: Could be harmful. Wear protective eye-shields,
especially where there is a danger of splashing. In the event of
accidental contact, irrigate the eyes immediately with clean water
for 15 minutes and seek medical attention.
BITUMINOUS PROTECTIVE COATING & PRIMER
Inhalation: Contains low volatility solvents. Use in
well ventilated areas and avoid inhalation and use
suitable respirators or breathing mask where necessary.
In the event of discomfort as a result of inhalation, remove
person to fresh air and obtain medical attention.
Oral Digestion: With proper handling oral digestion
should not occur. The possibility can be minimised by
not consuming food in the working area and by washing
hands thoroughly before eating, drinking and smoking.
Spillage: Spilt material should be mopped up immediately
with an inert absorbent material such as sand and disposed
of, in accordance with local regulations, by incineration or burial.
Disposal of Containers: Do not leave empty containers on
site where any residue could be a hazard to children or animals.
Replace lids and remove all containers to a central disposal point.
STORAGE
A minimum of 12 months in original sealed containers stored under cover
in a cool and dry place. It must be stored under conditions which meet the
local regulation applying to such substances.
